12th-Century Altar Found in Jerusalem

One of the most amazing things about Israel is the way that new archeological discoveries are so frequently made.  Smithsonian magazine recently reported that part of a 12th-century altar has been found–right behind a large stone covered in graffiti at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem.  Amit Re’em, a specialist in medieval archeology with the Israeli Antiquities Authority, calls the new find “an exquisite piece of art”.  It should be right at home in the beautiful Church.
